Blinken: Chinese peace plan does not end Russian aggression in Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told lawmakers on Wednesday that China's diplomatic and material support for Russia conflicts with the United States' interest in ending the war in Ukraine. Secretary Blinken's testimony to Congress comes ahead of a possible phone call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Presidenti rus Vladimir Putin thotë se ai mbështet një propozim paqeje të ndërmjetësuar nga Kina, por Ukraina thotë se bisedimet diplomatike mund të zhvillohen vetëm nëse Rusia tërheq forcat e saj nga territori ukrainas.

Në Uashington, ligjvënësit amerikanë dhe Sekretari i Shtetit Antony Blinken thonë se janë skeptikë për motivet e Kinës.

"Unë mendoj se mbështetja e tyre diplomatike, politike dhe, në një farë mase, mbështetja materiale për Rusinë sigurisht që bie ndesh me interesin tonë për t'i dhënë fund kësaj lufte", tha zoti Blinken.

Presidenti ukrainas Volodymyr Zelenskyy ka shprehur interes për të biseduar me zotin Xi, me shpresën se udhëheqësi kinez do ta kuptojë më qartë perspektivën ukrainase.

Por analistët paralajmërojnë për mosmarrëveshjet kryesore mbi konfliktin.

"The difficulty is that while the Chinese say they are neutral, all their proposals for a peace agreement are actually very pro-Russian. In other words, they are talking about a kind of ceasefire, a situation in which Putin gets to keep the territories that he has already conquered, and this is simply a disregard for the demands of Mr. Zelensky and the Ukrainians," says Dennis Wilder, professor of in Asian studies at Georgetown University.

Secretary of State Blinken on Wednesday reiterated his warning to China not to give Russia lethal weapons, citing severe economic consequences for Beijing./ VOA
