EU: Sanctions for illegal deportations and forcible transfers of children from

The European Union has announced it will impose sanctions on 16 individuals and seven entities in Russia for the systematic illegal deportation of children from Ukraine. According to the announcement, Russia is estimated to have deported and forcibly transferred almost 20,500 children.

In a statement, the Council said the decision targets those responsible for the systematic unlawful deportation, forcible transfer, forced assimilation, including ideological indoctrination and militarized education, of Ukrainian minors, as well as for their illegal adoption and transfer to the Russian Federation.

"The persons included in today's list are subject to an asset freeze, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds, financial assets or economic resources available. The individuals are also subject to a travel ban that prohibits them from entering or transiting through the territories of the EU," the EU statement said.

The sanctioned entities include federal state institutions of Russia, as well as officials and politicians from territories occupied by Russia./CNA
