In detention, it seems that masks fall off faster than in any campaign!

The arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, seems to still be stuck with his usual model: "communication, narrative, time".

The usual trial for Veliaj is not simply a procedure; it is a scene where he thinks the game is won by prolonging it, complicating it, keeping it in suspense.

Erion Veliaj entered the courtroom with the strategy of someone who thinks that time is an ally. Ordinary trial, long procedures, postponements, slow pace.

A kind of bet that, if you prolong the "match" long enough, maybe the public will forget the result! A political reflex, more than a legal one.

But justice is not a campaign. There is no audience to convince, only results to deliver.

And right there, former Minister of Health Ilir Beqja does something that in this context seems almost cynical in its simplicity: he gives up on "history" and chooses the number. Shortened trial. Reduced sentence if found guilty. Account closed. No illusions, no rhetoric. The contrast is brutal.

One behaves as if reality can be negotiated with time, while the other seeks to minimize reality as quickly as possible.

And perhaps this is the moment when the difference is no longer political, but instinctive. Erion Veliaj seems to still believe that he can manage the perception of a criminal trial. Ilir Beqja seems to have accepted that the criminal trial manages him.

The irony is almost didactic .

Veliaj is behaving as if he is in a political battle where perception matters. Beqja is behaving as one should in a criminal trial where the outcome matters.

In the end, true cynicism is this: you don't win by talking longer about what happens, but by reducing the cost of what will happen.

And while the first continues to invest in time, the other has moved on to balance. One seems to still be talking about "strategy," while the other has moved on to basic math: how many years go in, how many years go out.

Usually, in the end, it is not those who make the most noise who win, but those who make the most accurate calculations.

So, one is playing for "image" and perhaps for television time, the other for criminal calculations.

If this were a competition, Erion Veliaj is the one who does laps around the stadium to show off his form, while Ilir Beqaj is the one who goes straight to the scoreboard and does the math. /CNA
