Zhupa: Reporters Without Borders' alarm was confirmed in yesterday's

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa reacted through a post on social media to the water cannon used by the police against protesters, while journalists and media operators were also affected.

Zhupa called it a direct attack on media freedom and information. The MP also referred to a report by Reporters Without Borders, according to which journalists covering protests often become victims of police violence.

Ina Zhupa's full reaction:

"Journalists covering protests are becoming victims of police violence," a report by Reporters Without Borders said just a few days ago. Unfortunately, this international alarm was confirmed again yesterday during the opposition protest.

The footage clearly shows the attack on the operators and journalists who were on duty, documenting developments on the ground. Journalist Marsi Korreshi of Syri TV was hit twice with water pressure at very close range and in the direction of her face, while the second hit knocked her to the ground.

Violence against the media is violence against freedom of information and a dangerous indicator of the behavior of a drug police that does not respond to the law, but to political orders.

No uniform places the police above the Constitution and the fundamental rights of citizens. The duty of the police is to guarantee order and security, not to attack journalists and intimidate the media. These acts must be punished and the perpetrators held accountable. / CNA
