Guliem Radoja: Why did you sell my friend, do you have a face?

2026-05-08 22:40:00, Aktualitet CNA

At a time when a bunch of artists are lashing out at the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the message of one of their colleagues at one of the protests for the demolition of the theater is more relevant than ever.

Guljem Radoja, expressed in July 2019, that actors and theater are depoliticized, but despite this, political parties managed to divide them.

The late actor, in this strong speech, does not spare criticism towards his colleagues who sold and sacrificed their human and artistic dignity for other interests.

"One of my colleagues said to someone, 'I trampled on my dignity.' Why did you trample on my dignity, my friend? Is there anything greater than dignity? Each of us here, when we wash our faces in the morning, looks at ourselves and says a word; what did I do yesterday, how dignified I laughed yesterday, why was I funny yesterday? I, who am speaking, am very calm, I am a pensioner, I have been retired for 10 years, I take from this state as much as it gives me.

Why did my friend sell out? Why did my colleague sell out? What pact did you make with the devil that you trampled on dignity? Humanly good, but artistic? Where is he? I am in Durrës, I live in Durrës, I rarely come here to see you, but I am with you. But I tell all my colleagues who are left, let's not politicize our cause. Let the political parties support us. We are us, theater is theater, the citizens of Tirana, art lovers are with us" , expressed the late actor, Guliem Radoja. /CNA
