"Heated" situation in court / Balla and Malltezi face off

Today, the head of the SP Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, is testifying at the GJKKO regarding the "Partizani" file.

Also present at the hearing was Jamarbër Malltezi, who confronted Balla, asking him under whose authority he had made the report.

Balla stated that he filed the report in his capacity as a citizen.

Excerpts from the trial:

SPAK: You have raised doubts about the origin of the ownership, as you claim that they have been compensated?

Balla: I was introduced to the media by a document stating that the owners were compensated many years ago. It was widely known that the Italian government could not build an airport without having an ownership document.

SPAK: Does the "G Kamp" society remind you of anything?

Balla: No, I don't remember.

Jamarbër Malltezi: What position were you in when you filed the complaint?

Balla: I was the General Secretary of the Socialist Party. I performed my duty like any citizen. I performed my duty in the public interest. I was the chairman of the Socialist Party group.

Jamamber Malltezi: Can you explain to me where you work?

Balla: I am a member of the Parliament of Albania.

Malltezi: What about another function?

Balla: Political leader of the Socialist Party for the Diaspora.

Malltezi: How long have you been an MP?

Front page: September 9, 2005.

Malltezi: What position were you in when you filed the complaint?

Balla: I was the chairman of the Socialist Party group.

Malltezi: In what capacity did you make the report?

Balla: I signed it as a citizen.

Malltezi: The witness says I signed as a citizen, while it clearly looks different.

Balla: Regarding this issue, I have performed my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Albania, I have also performed my duty as a member of parliament and representative of a public office.

Malltezi: Was this an activity of the Parliamentary Group?

Balla: It's intertwined, the decision was mine, not the SP Parliamentary Group's.

Malltezi: Has the evidence been filed by you?

Balla: This has been a multi-year investigative work, I used the law on the status of MPs and collected documents and filed them with the special prosecutor.

Malltezi: Some of this data is personal data. How was the evidence obtained?

Balla: I have addressed the institutions regarding the procedures that have been followed, some of them have also been through citizens./ CNA
