National scheme deadline postponed/Salla: IPARD discussions continue

The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, announced the extension of the deadline for applications to the National Support Scheme by 10 days, until July 6, due to the high number of interested parties.

"These days we have had a significant increase in the number of applications. To give as many farmers as possible the opportunity to become part of the National Scheme, we have decided to extend the deadline by another 10 days," he declared.

In a joint statement with his Kosovo counterpart, Armend Muja, Minister Salla also confirmed progress in negotiations with the EU on IPARD funds.

"We have about 40 thousand farmers who have applied so far, in the 12 measures that we have, they are interested in applying. It has been decided to extend the deadline by 10 days to July 6 to give farmers the opportunity to apply. We are expecting a delegation to agree on the funds for IPARD. We are making progress, it is a positive process and we expect IPARD to be agreed as soon as possible. Therefore, there are several support components for Albanian farmers", said the minister.

We recall that due to the irregularities and abuses found, the European Commission decided in July 2023 to terminate support for Albania, preventing the opening of IPARD III. Meanwhile, funds for farmers benefiting from IPARD II, which belonged to the period 2014-2022, have been closed and total 94 million euros. The lack of this funding has been covered by the state budget through the Investment Scheme and the national subsidy scheme.

The ministers also committed to removing administrative barriers and digitalizing controls, with the aim of facilitating trade in agri-food products between the two countries and increasing the competitiveness of farmers./ CNA
