Poisoning of trainees at the Security Academy/ AKU "Wakes Up"

After the launch of investigations by the Police and the Prosecution, the National Food Authority has woken up to react one day after the poisoning of 64 Security Academy trainees.

According to the announcement, the NFA says that analyses are being conducted and verifications are being made, while declaring that nothing inappropriate has resulted from the Sori-Al entity.

"The National Food Authority, in the interest of public information and transparency, announces that, through inter-institutional communication with the Sauk Safety Academy, it has received information about suspected poisoning of several trainees at this academy.

Immediately, the AKU carried out the relevant verifications at the entity SORI-AL, an entity that carries out catering activities at the Security Academy, Sauk, as well as at the "Skënderbej" Garrison at the Armed Forces Academy.

From the verifications at the Sauk Security Academy, it was found that the subject was carrying out the activity in appropriate hygienic-sanitary conditions and with appropriate accompanying documentation. Sampling of 14 samples was carried out (7 samples from the lunch meal and 7 from the dinner meal from the samples in storage of finished products processed at the Skenderbej Garrison, Tirana, and consumed on 24.06.2026, at the Sauk Security Academy) for analysis for microbiological indicators at the ISUV laboratory.

Following the traceability monitoring, an inspection was carried out at the entity "Skenderbej Garrison, Tirana", where the processing of the products was carried out.

In these premises, adequate hygienic and sanitary conditions and complete accompanying documentation were found. During the procedure, 14 samples of cooked food from the lunch and dinner meals of 24.06.2026 were taken, as well as 5 buffer samples for environmental and equipment hygiene, which were sent for analysis to ISUV.

At the Skanderbeg Garrison address, Tirana, a measure was taken to suspend activity until the results of the tests were released. During these inspection procedures, other institutions were also present, such as the Tirana National Health Service (which took environmental swabs of the premises, equipment and employees), the ISHSH and the State Police Directorate, Tirana.

"The National Food Authority will continue to follow up on the entire case step by step and take further measures to ensure food safety," the AKU emphasizes./ CNA
