Measures for the summer season/ Lamallari: Higher security in tourist

The measures taken by the State Police to guarantee a safe tourist season were presented today, with a focus on strengthening police presence in tourist areas, monitoring with technology and increasing the capacities of the Maritime Police Unit.

During the event held in Durrës, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari, emphasized that the development of tourism brings not only economic opportunities, but also new responsibilities for guaranteeing the safety of visitors and citizens.

"When a tourist chooses Albania, he does not just choose a beach, a mountain or a historic city. He chooses a country that welcomes him with dignity at the Border Point and protects him with professionalism," said Lamallari, underlining that security is a key element of the country's image.

The Minister praised the commitment of the State Police during the summer season, describing this period as one of the greatest annual challenges for public services.

"A safe country is not built with words, but with a lot of work and dedication and with people who wake up first and go to bed last. I am talking about the State Police, which has the main burden in these months with a high influx of travelers and gatherings in tourist areas," he said.

Focusing on security in the maritime space, Lamallari emphasized the role of the Maritime Police Unit, which has become an important structure for preventing incidents on beaches and ensuring compliance with navigation rules.

"This modern structure, first erected in 2023, has today become one of the strongest guarantees of security in the country's maritime space, from Velipoja to Ksamil, from the Adriatic coast to the Ionian waters," the minister declared.

According to him, during 2025, the Maritime Police Unit and the Border Police came to the aid of 231 citizens and 80 vessels in difficulty at sea, while over 5,600 vessels were checked and violations that endangered the safety of vacationers were punished.

For the 2026 summer season, the State Police will increase its operational presence on the coastline, through specialized tools, technology and continuous monitoring.

"35 watercraft, trained personnel, intensive patrols along the entire coastline and aerial monitoring with drones will be in place to ensure the safety of vacationers," said Lamallari.

He also announced that the Border Police will use new technologies and direct connection to the TIMS system to facilitate procedures for yachts, sailboats and other vessels visiting Albania.

"The Border Police is often the first face of the Albanian state for millions of visitors entering our country. In addition to guaranteeing border security, its mission is to provide a professional, correct and dignified service to every Albanian and foreign citizen," the minister said.

In conclusion, Lamallari thanked the employees of the State Police, Border Police and the Maritime Police Unit for their commitment and underlined the objective for a tourist season with the highest possible security standards.

"Let's work together to make the 2026 tourist season the safest season Albania has ever known, so that every visitor leaves with beautiful memories and Albania continues to be a success story that inspires and attracts the world," Lamallari concluded./ CNA
