Alarming case/ Over 1 ton of contaminated almonds are thrown on the market, AKU

Over 1 ton of suspected contaminated almonds have entered the market and it is reported that most of them have been sold to consumers, raising a worrying alarm.

The National Food Authority (AKU) has called on citizens to avoid consuming the product "BLANCHED ALMOND EXTRA FINE", with an expiration date of 22.10.2026, after tests revealed the presence of hydrocyanic acid above the permitted limits, which may pose a health risk.

The AKU has also announced that the alert was issued by the European Food Safety Alert System (RASFF), which has identified the product as unsafe for human consumption. The product, which has its country of origin in Spain, is reported to have been imported into the country by the entities Albanian Smart Distribution sh.pk and Alta Group.

Meanwhile, the AKU appeals to citizens not to consume the product and to return it to the point of sale or contact the relevant retailer. /CNA
