Why Erion Veliaj seeks conflict with prosecutor Ols Dado

On January 20, 2026, just 4 days ago, the mayor arrested on 13 serious charges, Erion Veliaj, sued prosecutor Ols Dado in the Administrative Court, requesting his dismissal and declaring his appointment illegal.

Veliaj's lawsuit states that prosecutor Ols Dado did not meet the legal criteria to become a prosecutor in 2008, although it should be noted that Dado successfully passed all stages of vetting and his appointment was deemed legal by the relevant institutions.

In fact, Erion Veliaj is seeking conflict with prosecutor Ols Dado, whom he has attacked with slander, lobbying to expose untruths about him.

Veliaj's goal is to incite conflict so that the prosecutor will withdraw. The scenario is clear. All this is for Dado to file criminal charges against Veliaj and then withdraw from the case due to conflict of interest.

CNA has published a dozens-page report showing that he and his brother, Arbër Veliaj, paid $220,000 to lobby against the judiciary and the prosecutor.

The report submitted to the Department of Justice listed Veliaj's fraud against prosecutor Ols Dado, stating that he was a property developer and an active member of the authoritarian opposition party.

Fraud with money. The first one does not hold up, it is a public deception since Sali Berisha is a person who is being investigated by SPAK for corruption, against whom the security measure of house arrest was initially given and then an obligation to appear, while the trial continues, despite the fact that he is one of the characters who has most attacked SPAK and the prosecutors.

 

As for the fraud that was a property developer, this is a fraud, in fact, that has been going on for 160 days, as neither Erion Veliaj nor Mero Baze, the journalist of the mayor's family, have published any document with the prosecutor's signature nor the refusal with the signature of the mayor arrested for 5 serious criminal offenses and with 13 charges against him.

Another deception is that Veliaj singles out prosecutor Ols Dado as if he were the only one who investigated his file, when in fact prosecutor Altin Dumani, at the time the head of SPAK, was also part of the investigation.

Veliaj's schemes to create conflicts have a purpose. He seeks to avoid facing justice, honest prosecutors, the facts and evidence that prosecutors have presented, but he evades justice through procedures and technicalities.

Veliaj has attacked prosecutor Ols Dado, slandering and deceiving him by saying that he has a conflict of interest, while he has not yet substantiated his accusations.

And now he has found the Administrative Court to file a lawsuit to dismiss the prosecutor. The question that arises as a result of these actions of Veliaj is what would happen if all those who have been arrested or convicted were to demand the dismissal of the prosecutors?

Why is Veliaj hitting the prosecutor with a lawsuit now in 2026 and didn't he do it earlier, 18 years ago, when he started exercising his duties as a prosecutor?

Even if the extreme of extremes happens and Ols Dado is not the prosecutor in the case, what will the ZDROMSI do to prosecutor Altin Dumani, who is afraid to even mention his name, since as we pointed out above, prosecutor Altin Dumani was also involved in the Veliaj investigation?
