Journalist Isa Myzyraj has called out defendant Erion Veliaj, the mayor arrested on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.
Through a reaction regarding the lawsuit filed by the defendant Veliaj against prosecutor Ols Dado, Myzyraj expressed that he was impressed by the fact that the lawsuit did not cite any evidence or document to support the arrested mayor's claim.
Myzyraj states that a simple search revealed that the law on the prosecution, adopted in 2001, allowed the appointment of lawyers who had 3 years of work experience in academia, public administration or judicial police, despite not having completed the Magistrates' School. In fact, if you look at the public documents in November 2008 when Ols Dado was appointed prosecutor, he had at least 9 years of work in the legal profession, of which 6 years in public administration and 3 years as a notary (who is also considered a public servant by law). It does not take much thought and elaborate doctrine to understand that Ols Dado met the legal criteria to be appointed prosecutor. After his appointment, he underwent many institutional filters, all of which were successfully passed.
Myzyraj emphasizes that after the attacks on justice and the media mudslinging, Veliaj is trying, through legal proceedings, to raise questions about the integrity of the prosecutor who put him behind bars.
According to the journalist, Veliaj should resign and face justice, as he has brought his entire family into a corrupt scene.
Isa Myzyraj's statement
The defendant
I carefully read the lawsuit of the defendant Erion Veliaj against SPAK prosecutor Ols Dado. I was quite impressed that in a 24-page lawsuit, not a single piece of evidence or document was cited that supported Veliaj's claim that Dado had been appointed prosecutor in violation of the law. Long sentences, rhetoric, doctrine and elaborations from what most lawyers know how to do, but not a single document, document, or letter that supported the long drafting of the defendant Veliaj against prosecutor Dado.
For example, the defendant Veliaj or his lawyers should have at least requested from the General Prosecutor's Office (the proposing body) and the President of the Republic (the appointing body) the complete practice of proposing and appointing Ols Dado as prosecutor. From this practice, they could have better understood the legal conditions and procedures followed by the then Prosecutor General Ina Rama (today a judge of the Special Chamber of the Court of Appeals) and the President of the Republic Bamir Topi. But neither the defendant nor his lawyers seem to have taken the trouble, perhaps knowing that the truth would be slapped in the face.
From a simple search I did, it turned out that the law on the prosecution, adopted in 2001, allowed the appointment of lawyers who had 3 years of work experience in academia, public administration or judicial police, despite not having completed the Magistrate's School. In fact, if you look at the public documents in November 2008 when Ols Dado was appointed prosecutor, he had at least 9 years of work in the legal profession, of which 6 years in public administration and 3 years as a notary (who for the purposes of the law is also considered a public servant). It does not take much thought and elaborate doctrine to understand that Ols Dado met the legal criteria to be appointed prosecutor. After his appointment, he was subjected to many institutional filters, all of which were successfully passed.
Does the defendant Erion Veliaj and his lawyers know this? Of course they do. But, after failing with his strategy of attack and media mudslinging, he is now trying through legal proceedings to raise questions about the integrity of the prosecutor who put him behind bars. You are wasting your time Erion. Because even if we accept that what you say about Ols Dado is true, this does not nullify the charges against you nor does it bring you freedom. Because in any case, the masters of the investigation are the Constitution and the law and its guardians in the Special Prosecution Office are the two most integrity-based and honest prosecutors our country has, Altin Dumani and Ols Dado. But you cannot stand these: integrity and honesty, which is why you declare anyone you have an enemy to and attack them with the vile words that characterize you.
Erion, you are holding hostage about 1 million citizens of Tirana who are not governed today, so before you use the Municipality for personal interests, resign and face the fact that you have involved your entire family in a corrupt scene that, apart from being a criminal fact, is shameful from a human point of view./ CNA
