The latest INSTAT report for 2025 reveals a difficult reality for culture in our country. The main focus remains the underfunding that is hindering the development of art institutions under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports headed by Blendi Gonxhja.

Despite efforts to keep artistic life alive with 1,272 performances in 2025, which attracted 171,607 spectators, the sector suffers from an extremely limited budget. This underfunding is also reflected in the labor market, where culture accounts for only 3% of total employment, leaving thousands of students who graduate each year in these fields without prospects.

Accessibility to knowledge also remains a challenge. According to INSTAT data, the price of books increased by 2.9% during 2025. This increase also places the Ministry of Education, headed by Mirela Kumbaro, at the center of criticism for the lack of supportive policies.

This entire sector continues to be held on to its last financial breath. Public spending on culture, entertainment and religious affairs accounts for only 0.50% of GDP, confirming that culture is not a priority for the government./ CNA
