Caught on the phone in Drenova prison/ Laert Haxhiu isolated

The Operational Forces of the General Directorate of Prisons have arrested Laert Haxhiu by phone in prison.

After finding the phone in prison, authorities have placed Laert Haxhiu in solitary confinement

It is now expected to be decided whether he will be transferred or kept in Drenova prison, where he has been for 4 months.

Haxhiu was arrested in Greece in May 2023.

He was an opponent of former Lushnja gang leader Aldo Bare, and was sentenced to life in prison for the 2017 Lushnja massacre, where Zamir Latifi, Bare's friend, and Jurgen Hoxha were killed.

Haxhiu's associates, Anterio Kaloshi and Orgest Bilbili, were previously sentenced to life imprisonment for the Lushnja massacre.

The Court of Lushnja, in 2017, sentenced him to 18 years in prison for the criminal offenses "Murder in other qualifying circumstances", attempted and "Unlicensed possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition". Citizen Laert Haxhiu, on 25.09.2016, wounded citizens Xh. Sh. and S. Xh. with a firearm;

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has sentenced him to life imprisonment for the criminal offenses "Structured criminal group", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or structured criminal group", "Murder in other qualifying circumstances", "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" and "Disturbance of public peace".

He was extradited to Albania in July 2024./ CNA
