Therapy for cancer patients interrupted/ Journalist denounces equipment

Journalist Osman Stafa, through a status on social networks, has published a message from a citizen who denounces the breakdown of one of the Linear Accelerator devices.

The staff writes that there are only two of these in Albania and no other device can do the work of the Linear Accelerator 2. Further, the journalist writes that tumor patients have been told not to go to hospitals and the sessions have been suspended indefinitely.

The cause of the breakdown of Linear Accelerators is overload, says Stafa, as at least 4 such devices are needed.

LINEAR ACCELERATOR 2 BROKE AT ONCOLOGY HOSPITAL, CANCER PATIENTS' TREATMENTS INTERRUPTED!

In Albania, there are only 2 linear accelerators for the treatment of cancer patients.

Today, one of them, Linear Accelerator 2, has broken down.

No other device can do the work of this accelerator.

The result? Patients with tumors are being told not to show up at the hospital. Sessions are being suspended indefinitely.

Doctors at this same hospital admit that radiotherapy must be continuous, otherwise it has no medical effect.

But the Albanian state has neither reserves, nor emergency plan, nor human sensitivity for the sick who are fighting for their lives.

Faced with a cancer diagnosis, every day is a race against time. But Albania no longer guarantees them time or hope.

There were solutions. But they don't work.

At least 2 more accelerators are needed to normalize the situation. They could cost 4 million euros. The 2 that are there break down from overload every 2-3 weeks./ CNA
