After being beaten by guards, the convict committed suicide in the Reç

Six prison police officers who served in the internal regime of the Reç prison in Shkodra have been charged with a suicide case, being accused of the criminal offense of committing arbitrary acts committed in the form of collaboration.

Their file has been sent to the Shkodra court and it is expected that in the coming days the 6 former guards will give explanations before the court regarding their arbitrary actions taken in the Reç prison.

According to the investigation, Besmir Likaj, Elvis Bajrakurtaj, Fatmir Bushati, Indrit Duli, Senadi Bajrakurtaj, Fatjon Bajrakurti, appear to have beaten the convict Edmond Piraniqi in a room in the Reç prison.

As a result of the violence and insults inflicted on him, the 44-year-old prisoner Piraniqi committed suicide by hanging himself with a sheet in his cell.

The serious incident occurred on June 29, 2024, where Piranaqi was initially found by police officers with signs of life and was taken to the prison hospital.

But even after medical assistance, he was unable to survive, honoring life.

Regarding this case, the Shkodra prosecution has launched investigations by opening criminal file No. 840 on the charge of "Causing suicide" and "Committing arbitrary acts" committed in collaboration.

Investigations showed that the 6 police officers had exercised physical violence against the convicted Piraniqi, after which the convicted thief, under severe psychological shock, hanged himself.

The investigative file provides a clear picture of the dynamics of what happened, emphasizing that:

“...on June 29, 2024, at around 9:20 PM, the Information Specialist of the Rec Prison, Malësi e Madhe notified the Judicial Police that the convict Edmond Piraniqi was found in room no. 17, building no. 5, "Veçim", hanging with a sheet tied around his neck, with his feet resting on the ground...”

In these conditions, he was urgently sent to the Shkodra Regional Hospital, with signs of life.

Verifications revealed that at 20:48, an "Incident Report" was compiled against this convict and he was sent to "Segregation" by the security group, after he had argued with nurses and a basic role police officer, specifically, Altin Shabaj.

To clarify the circumstances surrounding this event, the Judicial Police carried out the first procedural actions, questioning Altin Shaba, who was a person with knowledge of the criminal offense, and who testified about the circumstances of the incident described above.

Among other things, Altin Shaba stated that the convict Edmond Piraniqi objected to his escort, where he was grabbed by the arms by the security group, unhandcuffed, and taken to room no. 17.

The security group stayed in room no. 11 for about 5-6 minutes. Altin Shaba explained that when door No. 11 was opened, he noticed that the convict Edmond Piraniqi was being escorted by the arm into the observation corridor, to be taken to room No. 17.

He asked Edmond if he needed anything, as he seemed stressed. When he approached and saw the door to room no. 11 open, he noticed that the room was messy, as the blankets and sheets were on the floor.

Shaba states that he only heard the words from the convict: "...I don't want to go to solitary confinement....", while he did not hear any other noises, but he can tell that the door was closed by the security group./ Oranews.tv
