5.8 billion lek/ ARRSH opens tenders for Elbasan bypass, aim to relieve traffic

The Albanian Road Authority has opened two tender procedures with a limit fund of around 5.8 billion lek for the construction of the Tirana-Elbasan connecting segment, an important part of the Elbasan bypass and the Pan-European Corridor VIII.

The new segment, about 4 kilometers long, will start before the Bradashesh roundabout and end near the former Metalurgjiku.

This axis aims to ease heavy traffic at the entrance and exit of the Tirana-Elbasan highway, one of the most problematic points of current traffic.

According to the tender documents, the construction of the Elbasan bypass in its entirety is essential for diverting traffic outside urban areas, given that the existing ring road no longer copes with the flow and does not meet the required technical parameters.

The project is considered an integral part of Corridor VIII, one of the main axes of regional and international transport, and is expected to connect the Elbasan–Lekaj and Elbasan–Qafë Thanë segments.

The new route will pass mainly through hilly and rural areas, with the aim of avoiding residential areas.

Authorities predict that the implementation of this bypass will reduce travel time, improve road safety, and reduce noise and air pollution in the city of Elbasan.

The project is included in the Priority Policy Document 2027–2029, with a total estimated value of around 240 million euros./ CNA
