?The village is burning, Safet is brushing his hair?. This popular expression beyond the borders of Albania is very true for Safet Gjici, the mayor of Kukës. The man who was elected in this municipality with great luck, after being pardoned by the opposition of Luli Basha, who didn?t enter its candidates in the race, already sees himself as the sultan of Kukes and not the mayor of this city, who must serve the citizens for a while, because as soon as the next local elections take place, Safet will not be in office, but will leave it with shame.

With the shame of too many scandals. First, that of a disgusting act he carried out on Veton Surroi, attacking with voice and image the well-known Kosovar publicist and politician. But on the other hand he shamelessly denied it, and apologized after Edi Rama get him some ?slaps? on his head swollen by stupidity and ignorance.

But as if that were not enough, Safet continues to ?brushing his hair? when Kukës is ?burning?. Yesterday, the media reported that Gjici had again demanded a tax increase for 2021. In times of pandemic, at the height of an economic crisis that is still expected to deepen in Albania, Safet recalled that it is the sultan who collects taxes and tribute to his ?slaves? in Kukës, so it has decided to increase taxes.

Additional taxes on business, but also on citizens. And this has brought a harsh reaction, as this is the only municipality in Albania that claims such an increase. All local budgets envisage an increase in revenues, but not an increase in taxes.

Municipalities are trying to find another way, namely good administration. They are even trying to forgive some taxes and service fees, to make the business a little easier. And in poor Kukes, Safet continues to ?brush? his head even though he is hairless.

He wants to increase the tax burden for the citizens and businesses of Kukes. Well, this is the case to really say that ?Kukes is burning, and Safet is brushing his head?. Not only for the taxes, not only for the case of Veton Surroi, but also for the fact that he got this post with more luck.

And instead of being used for a good administration, for the service to the citizens, Safet Gjici shamefully turned it into a service of his personal interests, causing daily damage to the residents and businesses of Kukes, which are irreparable in these times of a pandemic and deep economic crisis.

Apparently the comb on Safet?s head hurt him very badly, worse than power. However, the people of Kukës cannot tolerate the behavior of the sultan, a man who is suffocating them with taxes, fines and mismanagement of local government citizens and business of this area./CNA.al
