France's list, Deschamps surprises with the choices

The French national team has officially begun preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

With 289 days to go before the tournament begins, coach Didier Deschamps has released his first World Cup qualifiers list of the season. France will play Ukraine on September 5 and Iceland on September 9 in Paris.

The list includes the likes of Koundé, Saliba and Upamecano, while Pavard has not been called up. Rabiot has been included despite uncertainty over his future at the club.

Striker Kolo Muani is absent due to his situation at PSG, while Ekitike, although in good form with Liverpool, has not been included. The biggest novelty is the first call-up of Maghnes Akliouche, who makes his debut with the "roosters".
