Sensational statement: Premier League footballers linked to crime, match-fixing

The former head of a Swedish sports crime investigation unit, Fredrik Gardare, has told the Daily Mail that several Premier League players have been involved in match-fixing.

According to him, during a police operation at an illegal casino in 2021, phones with clear evidence on Telegram of collaboration between footballers and criminal groups were seized.

Gardare said the materials are still in the hands of the Swedish police, but the investigation was not pursued further after the unit was disbanded. He raised doubts about why the case was closed, considering it to be a very clear case.

The Swedish Football Association admitted it received general information but not details to act on. Gardare added that the information may have also been sent to the English FA.

The FA said it had not received the results of the investigation and was interested in seeing the evidence. The case is seen as having a major impact not only on Swedish football, but also on international football.
