Lepusha, the pure spirit of the mountains/ "Maja e Vajusha", the

In the heart of the Albanian Alps, beyond the usual tourist tracks, stands an attraction that is attracting more and more attention: Maja e Vajusha.

The morning walk starts from Lepusha in Malësia e Madhe, a walk through bushes and paths that wind over this valley. The journey is lively, on foot for about 3 hours, full of breath and curiosity. As you climb, the air becomes a little fresher and the view deeper. During the walk, foreign tourists are the ones who dominate.

"I 'm from Belgrade and I'm visiting this place for the second time. It's wonderful, you just have to see it with your own eyes and it stays in your memory every day. I told myself that you have to return to that place to experience it again. My friends suggested it to me because they themselves had seen it on the internet ," said a tourist.

" Yes, it's my first time here. I've been staying in Shkodra for a week and we decided to come to this beautiful place. It's fantastic, very nice people, very beautiful nature, the food is also worth it and I'm having a nice time. A bit of a difficult walk here for a few hours but with a fascinating view. I live in London and I'm used to walking there, " said a tourist.

" I don't think I have much strength for this hike but I'm having a great time and I want to finish it. I like the people and everything here. A very beautiful place and I've never seen anything more beautiful than here in my life ," said another tourist.

“ I feel so amazing. Beautiful place, beautiful people, culture, food, nature that I love. I did this trail, which was amazing, the whole track when you climb to the top, it stands there with the climbing flag and it’s just yeah. It’s really a very special feeling. I know you can go to a cafe or a bar anywhere and they were very friendly, you’re very welcome all over the place, it’s fantastic. Oh, I’ll definitely suggest it as soon as I get home and I’ll tell you that yes, I’ve met so many Australians here and I can understand why we all come here, it’s beautiful. I’ll definitely tell all my friends back home that you should get strength here because it’s just a good start for everyone, it’s just amazing the whole place and I’ve only been here for a week. I’ve only done mountains. I’m excited to continue the journey and experience more of Albania ,” said one tourist.

Fewer Albanians visit the Vajusha peak, as this hike is not easy for them.

"I have been to Lepusha while I am climbing the Vajusha Peak for the first time. For my age it is a bit difficult but I want to do it to the end because it is a natural beauty that I want to enjoy. I tell Albanians that before they go abroad they should visit their own country because we have many beautiful areas to see and enjoy," said an Albanian visitor.

"I am from Kosovo and I am here with a group of Albanians and some foreigners from Australia, America, Germany and some other countries. We did 'Peaks of the Balkans' and we traveled to all these peaks. Today we are on the 9th day of the trip and we still have one day to finish it. It was an extraordinary experience. The foreigners we have with us are actually amazed by these natural beauties that we have. They say that they have never experienced such a beautiful feeling before," said an Albanian who came from Kosovo.

"I visit Maja i Vajusha twice a year because it is very beautiful and gets a lot of positive energy. It is also very good for you as a sport and it is worth it. There is no need for advertising here at all because it is a gem of the beautiful Albanian nature. We Albanians should visit these places before traveling abroad. In fact, when I come more often, I always see foreigners coming and much fewer Albanians. If I had the chance, I would do it more than twice a year. Foreigners are amazed by this place," said an Albanian visitor.

Climbing to the top of Vajusha is not easy, but it does not require much professional equipment, just willpower, a little preparation, and a lot of love for nature.

It is located 2050 meters above sea level, being the starting point of the Bjeshkët të Namuna Mountains with a view that extends to Theth, Montenegro and the mountains of Kosovo.
