Former deputy leader and former MP of the Democratic Party, Edmond Spaho, has come out against demands for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, arguing that the country is at a crucial stage in the process of integration into the European Union.
Spaho said that national interest must be placed above political clashes, while adding that Albania has an important opportunity to advance negotiations with the EU.
In his statement, he sharply criticized the groups organizing protests against the government, accusing them of aiming to seize power through pressure on the streets and not through elections. According to Spaho, in a democratic system, governments are changed only by the vote of the citizens.
The former MP used strong language against the organizers of the protests, calling them a threat to the democratic order and claiming that they use divisive language and attacks on political opponents. He also accused them of receiving support from groups outside Albania.
"There are still smart people who see the national interest above the partisan one."
In truth, Rama should not resign, not only because we are now at a unique opportunity for Albania to close the European integration process, but also because this group that has emerged in the revolution is clearly a fascist atavism.
This group seeks to destroy the foundations of democracy, attempting to come to power through revolution, with Molotov cocktails, from the streets, just as the fascist phalanges of Mussolini and Hitler came to power.
In a democracy, power is only gained through the vote of the citizens. Fascists and Marxists come to power through revolution and then physically eliminate their political opponents.
This group consists of people who speak on behalf of the people but are uneducated, poor, immature, with a limited mentality and vocabulary. It is enough to follow their rants every night in the stands to understand how intellectually poor they are, how empty they are in their thoughts, and how ridiculous they become in their proposals for the organization of our social order and the governance of the country.
This group is socially dangerous and must be prevented from taking revenge.
They, like fascist attack groups, attack in an organized manner all those who think differently, massacre them with thug language on social networks, on television stands, attack and destroy businesses that they consider opponents, have declared the state of Israel an enemy, and insult and insult all citizens who do not join their nightly march, but see their troubles.
Unfortunately, in this lawlessness, they are joined by the neo-Marxist phalanges of Pristina and the mosques of Tetovo, who, like never before, not even in the time of Tito and Milosevic, seek to destabilize Albania and overthrow its legitimate government.
The problem is not whether Rama will resign.
The problem is whether the healthy part of our society will rise up to oppose this plague in Tirana, which not only seeks to undo what we have achieved so far, but also to take the country hundreds of years back," Spaho writes./ CNA
