Albania advances in negotiations with the EU, today a new step towards European

Albania marks another important moment on its path towards the European Union. Our country is holding today in Brussels the 9th Intergovernmental Conference with the EU, where progress is expected to be made in the accession negotiations process.

The meeting focuses on three negotiating chapters related to important areas such as scientific research, education and culture, as well as foreign relations. The Albanian delegation is led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, while the European side assesses the progress made by Albania during the reform process.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has described this day as a special moment for European enlargement policy, as several candidate countries are simultaneously taking important steps in the integration process.

According to her, Albania is moving at a positive pace and is among the countries that are getting closer to European Union standards. She emphasized that the main challenge now is to ensure that progress in negotiations is accompanied by concrete results in the implementation of reforms.

The closure of the first chapters constitutes an important political signal for Tirana, as it shows progress in the alignment of Albanian legislation and institutions with EU requirements.

However, the integration process remains long and requires continued reforms in key areas such as the rule of law, public administration, and the functioning of institutions.

The government has set as its objective the acceleration of negotiations with the aim of closing the chapters within 2027 and achieving full membership in the European Union by 2030./ CNA
