ARRSH 4.8 million euros for signage and safety on national axes, roads where

The Albanian Road Authority recently opened three procurement procedures with a combined value of around 474.7 million lekë, or approximately 4.8 million euros, for interventions in road signage and safety equipment in the north, south and the Center-East region.

The procedures cover the improvement of horizontal and vertical signage, the installation or replacement of protective barriers, the lighting of intersections, and the repair of bridge joints on some of the main axes of the national network.

The largest fund is foreseen for the Southern Region, Lot 3, with 187.46 million lekë. A similar value, of 187.44 million lekë, has been set for the Northern Region, Lot 1, while the tender for the Central-Eastern Region, Lot 4, has a fund limit of 99.84 million lekë. According to the technical reports, the axes were selected after field inspections and assessment of traffic flow, importance in the network, connections to border points and the need for intervention in existing security elements.

Axes in the North

In the north, the project includes the Shkodra Bypass, the Vau i Dejës–Pukë–Kthesa e Hadrojit axis, the Kthesa e Hadrojit–Fushë-Arrëz–Kalimash segment, as well as the Klos–Qafë Buall and Ura e Cerenec–Maqellarë roads. The length of the segments listed in the report ranges from 8.16 kilometers on the Shkodra Bypass to 62.7 kilometers on the Kthesa e Hadrojit–Fushë-Arrëz–Kalimash axis.

The northern lot also includes the lighting of the Koman intersection on the Shkodër–Pukë segment and the Aliaj intersection on the Shkodër–Hani i Hotit axis. Bridge joint repairs are foreseen on the Milot–Lezhe, Lezhe–Shkodër, Shkodër–Hani i Hotit and Shkodër–Velipoje segments.

Axes in the South

In the south, interventions are focused on the Mbrostar–Levan highway, part of the A2, with a length of 22.3 kilometers, and on the Mallakastër–Tepelena–Dogana Kakavija axis, part of the SH4, with a length of 85.8 kilometers.

The report foresees lighting at dangerous intersections along the Mallakastër–Dogana Kakavijë segment, as well as the repair of bridge joints on the Vlorë–Levan axis. The Mbrostar–Levan segment is described as a main interurban road with two lanes in each direction and with a connecting role for areas with economic activity and traffic towards Tirana.

Axes in the Center-East

In the Center-East Region, the works will extend to the segments Urakë–Golik i Poshtëm, Librazhd–Zgosht Ring Road, Drizë–Holta Canyon, Podgorie Intersection–Liqenasit Intersection, Libonik Intersection–Ura në Maliq and Gështenjasit Intersection on the Pogradec–Korça axis.

Lighting is planned at a series of intersections, including Urake–Golik, Podgorie–Liqenas, Boboshticë–Qatrom, Geshtenjas, Qafë Plloçë, Korçë–Voskop, Leminot and Ersekës Ring Road. The document also includes the repair of the bridge joints in Çërrava, Korçë.

Technical reports highlight the main problems as the lack of retroreflection at night, damage, vandalism, destruction and age of road signs. Interventions are not limited to updating existing markings and signs. The projects also foresee the addition of missing elements, the replacement of damaged equipment and the installation of new road restriction systems. These systems include steel and concrete barriers, shock absorbers, terminals, mobile barriers and metal handrails for pedestrians./ Monitor
