UAE condemns tanker attack, US intensifies operations against Iran

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the attack on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which it blames on Iran. According to Emirati authorities, the attack killed one crew member and injured eight others, including six Indian nationals and two Ukrainians.

The UAE Ministry of Defense described the incident as a brazen attack and a serious violation of international law, stressing that it endangers security and stability in the region.

On the other hand, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that it had hit the two tankers, claiming that the ships had ignored warnings, turned off their navigation systems and attempted to pass through a mined area.

Meanwhile, the United States has launched a new wave of strikes on Iranian military targets. President Donald Trump declared that US forces are hitting Iran's military capabilities "very hard" and announced the resumption of the naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Trump also announced that the US would impose a 20 percent tariff on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that this is compensation for ensuring security in one of the world's most important sea lanes. According to him, all countries will continue to have access to the strait, while the measure only targets activities related to Iran.

In his response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran has been and will remain the "guardian" of the Strait of Hormuz, opposing any US attempt to take control of the waterway.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it had struck a number of military targets in Iran, with the aim of weakening Iranian capabilities to attack commercial shipping. In response, Iran announced that it had targeted US military bases and facilities in several countries in the region.

The escalation of tensions has also affected international markets, where oil prices have risen sharply, amid concerns about the security of global supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important corridors for the transport of oil and gas in the world./ CNA
