Huge fire in Paris, air intervention to contain flames

A large fire has engulfed the Fontainebleau forest, about 60 kilometers southeast of Paris, forcing French authorities to deploy firefighting aircraft to bring the flames under control, which have been described as of an "extraordinary scale."

According to authorities, the fire has burned about 800 hectares of forest and continues to spread, while high temperatures and wind are making the work of emergency teams difficult. For the first time, France has sent firefighting aircraft from the southern regions of the country to fight the flames in the Paris area.

Two firefighting aircraft and a surveillance aircraft have also been deployed in the operation, with the priority being the protection of lives and property.

The fire has also caused major transport problems. Part of the main north-south highway has been closed, and traffic has been heavy on the first weekend of the summer holidays. Another fire has also disrupted traffic on a high-speed train line, causing delays of up to six hours for passengers using the Gare de Lyon station in Paris.

France is facing its third heatwave this year, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius in some areas. As a result of the extreme conditions, three nuclear power plants have been temporarily shut down to avoid further heating of the waters used for cooling.
