US launches new attacks on Iran, Tehran announces closure of the Strait of

The US has launched a new wave of airstrikes on military targets in Iran after Tehran hit a merchant ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was carried out in response to the attack on the Cypriot-flagged vessel, which suffered heavy damage and forced the crew to abandon ship.

US authorities said the strikes hit about 140 Iranian military targets, including missile bases, drones, communications networks and coastal surveillance positions. On the other hand, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, warning that any further US action would face a harsh response.

Iran also claimed to have struck a US military base in Jordan, while several Gulf countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, activated air defense systems after missile and drone attacks.

The new escalation of the conflict comes just days after attacks on several commercial ships in the region, incidents that have significantly increased tensions and concerns about the safety of navigation in one of the world's most important oil transportation routes.
