Pogradec ready for summer/ Tourists, tradition and local flavors

Pogradec has officially opened the summer tourist season, bringing a lively atmosphere to the lakeside city. With preparations that have begun months ago, local structures, tourist operators and local artisans have come together to guarantee a special experience for domestic and foreign vacationers. During the symbolic opening of the season, the city is filled with visitors, music, fairs and cultural activities.

This year, Pogradec offers over 40 hotels, dozens of restaurants and guesthouses that stretch not only along the lake shore, but also in the surrounding mountainous areas, such as Mokra, where in recent years there have been investments in infrastructure that make it more accessible and attractive for nature tourism.

Mayor Ilir Xhakoli says that demand for accommodation has increased significantly, especially in areas like Tushemishti or the city's historic neighborhoods, where a more refined form of tourism is being developed, aiming for quality and authenticity. Local tourism operators have intensified cooperation with international agencies since the beginning of the year, which has led to a significant increase in the presence of foreign tourists, especially from Germany and Austria.

 

 " We are ready. We have been working since the beginning of the year for the upcoming summer season. I believe that all Albanian and foreign tourists will find a very friendly environment and will feel at home. We have about 40 hotels, 116 restaurants and 40 guesthouses, also open in the Mokra area due to the infrastructure in that area. I believe that there is still a need for capacity, there are 2-3 requests, one in Turizmi i Vjetër and one in Tushemisht, which have hotel facilities and it is about elite tourism, which Pogradec needs. Tourist operators have started since January, connecting with powerful tourism companies and every day in some hotels in Pogradec there are Germans. I believe that Pogradec is recovering and I hope that with other investments, Pogradec will go where it needs to go ", said Xhakoli.

 

At the center of the festivities and the tourist offer are also the culinary traditions of the area. Visitors have the opportunity to taste typical dishes of the city, such as lake fish casserole, larkspur, village duck and other artisanal products. However, the lack of koran, one of the most popular fish of Lake Ohrid, has brought difficulties for restaurants that want to preserve the traditional menu. Fishermen are not able to provide the necessary quantity, which has limited the offer in this regard.

 

"Këtu kemi tavë korani me qepë, tradicionalen e qytetit. Është i bërë me qepë, arra, mjaltë, spec të kuq dhe pak domate. Ne e oftojmë por tani është pak vështirë të gjejmë koranin sepse peshkatarët nuk gjuajnë shumë dhe ka rënë edhe niveli i peshkut. Ka shumë kërkesa por kemi edhe mungesë. Gatimet të tjera tradicionale janë rosa, lakrori dhe kulaçi qe i bëjmë vetë. Vijnë vetëm për koranin sidomos nga Tirana dhe Elbasani. Të huajt janë preferojnë më shumë mishin,pulen ,rosën ndërsa peshkun nuk e konsumojnë shumë", u shpreh një operator turistik.

 

Një vëmendje të veçantë këtë sezon po tërheq edhe prodhimi artizanal vendas. Gratë e zonës kanë kthyer shtëpitë e tyre në punishte të vogla ku prodhojnë reçelra, pekmez, turshi dhe petka të freskëta. Njëra prej tyre është Mukades Gjona e cila tregon se gjatë muajve të verës, këto produkte ekspozohen dhe shiten në panaire dhe tregje lokale, duke sjellë një formë të qëndrueshme zhvillimi ekonomik për familjet rurale dhe duke pasuruar përvojën e vizitorëve që kërkojnë diçka autentike.

 

"Shtëpinë time e kam kthyer në punishte tradicionale prej 10 vitesh ku punoj me shoqet. Prodhojmë ushqime tradicionale  reçelrat, pekëmez, narden, turshitë. Në këtë kohë kemi sezonin e petkave, me vezë të freskëta nga pulat pasi kullota është shumë e mirë. Sot marr pjesë në çeljen e sezonit turistik. Bashkia më ka siguruar një shtëpizë ku shes këto 3 muaj. Kanë shumë interes për produktet tona sepse janë ushqime tradicionale të bëra vetë. Edhe të huajt i preferojnë. Kemi pasur shitije, me panairet që marrim pjesë e kemi kapur tregun", tha Mukades Gjona.

 

Turistët e huaj që ndodhen aktualisht në qytet shprehen të entuziazmuar me mikpritjen, natyrën dhe ushqimin vendas. Për shumë prej tyre, Pogradeci është një zbulim i ri që kombinon qetësinë e liqenit, panoramat malore dhe pasurinë kulturore.

Disa kanë zgjedhur të qëndrojnë për periudha më të gjata, duke eksploruar mundësi bashkëpunimi për zhvillimin e mëtejshëm të turizmit, ndërsa të tjerë e përfshijnë Pogradecin në itinerarin e pushimeve të tyre nëpër Shqipëri.

"Unë vij nga Austria, në fakt jemi për te dytin vit rradhazi në Shqipëri. Është një vend i mrekullueshëm sidomos liqeni është fantastik. Na pelqejne malet që e rrethojnë qytetin dhe vet qyteti eshte shume i bukur, madje sot është një festival dhe ne po e shijojmë shumë", tha një turist.

 

"Është një shtet shumë i bukur dhe ne vertet na pëlqen mirësia e njerëzve këtu. Kemi provuar ushqimin dhe çdo gjë është shumë e bukur. Ne do të qëndrojmë në Pogradec për 2 ditë”, u shpreh një tjetër turist.

 

" I am from Germany and I have been here for 1 month now to discuss with a partner guide some ideas for cooperation. Today I am very pleased with what I am seeing, it looks very nice. The city is very beautiful, the people are very friendly, they always invite me to discuss ", said a German tourist.

 

" We only have one night here. We are from Germany, we came by ferry to Durrës and then here by bike. We will stay two weeks in Albania and we only have one night in Pogradec. We are seeing the cheese here and the traditional products, we just arrived and we haven't seen much ," said a tourist.

 

With positive energy, broad cooperation and growing interest, Pogradec seems to be taking a new leap as one of the most preferred summer tourism destinations in the southeast of the country./ CNA
