The Democratic Party today denounced the poisoning of 56 students of the Security Academy, which according to initial suspicions occurred as a result of food consumed during Wednesday's lunch.

In a press conference, the DP's Anti-Corruption Spokesperson Genta Vangjeli demanded that a full investigation be conducted into the case, as the health of citizens was endangered.

The DP also leveled accusations of illegality, focusing on tenders and the inflated contracts of institutions with private companies.

"The poisoning of the Security Academy students endangered their health. It happened in public institutions. The real cause is not food, but the state itself. Tenders have been turned into a means of personal enrichment. The basic conditions are almost unchanged. They are paid for by Albanian taxes. The food preparation and distribution service was tendered with a fictitious competition. The question is simple, where did the millions of Albanians go and who benefited from the inflated contracts to get money for the pockets of ministers. The DP demands a full investigation to determine criminal and administrative responsibility for anyone who is part of this affair," said Vangjeli. /CNA
