Debates and votes/ Here's what happened yesterday in the Albanian

The Albanian Parliament convened on Thursday under the leadership of Speaker Niko Peleshi, in a multi-hour plenary session, filled with discussions and votes.

After approving the minutes of the plenary session of 2.4.2026, Peleshi announced that, at the Conference of Speakers on 7 April, there was no agreement on setting a date for the development of a motion with debate on the issues identified by the annual report of the Department of State on the investment climate in Albania and the findings of the European Commission's progress report.

After voting in the session, the Assembly approved the development of the motion with debate on May 14.

Following the announcements, Peleshi announced a request from a group of 7 deputies of the DP parliamentary group for an interpellation with the Prime Minister to provide information regarding the decision-making of the National Council of Territory and Water, a request which was rejected by a majority vote.

The Assembly also announced the request of a group of 36 deputies of the DP Parliamentary Group for the accelerated review of the draft law "On the mechanism for responding to fuel supply and price crises." After the vote, the request was rejected by a majority of votes.

After the interpellation with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andis Salla, requested by MP Erion Braçe, the plenary proceedings continued with a question-and-answer session with the Minister of Education, Mirela Kumbaro, requested by MP Erisa Xhixho.

The session continued with the review of two draft laws and three draft decisions, respectively;

The draft law “On an amendment to Law No. 9710, dated 10.4.2007 “On tourist ports in the Republic of Albania”, as amended” was approved with 76 votes in favor, 26 against, and 0 abstentions.

The draft law “On some additions and amendments to law no. 9917, dated 19.5.2008, “On the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism”, as amended” was approved with 76 votes in favor, 27 against, and 1 abstention.

The draft decision "On the establishment of the Parliamentary Investigative Committee, "On the control of the legality of the actions of the Albanian Road Authority for the realization of investments in road infrastructure" was defeated with 28 votes in favor, 75 against, and 0 abstentions.

The draft decision "On the establishment of the Parliamentary Investigative Committee, "On the control of the legality of the functioning of the ANA, on the assessment of cybersecurity and the protection of citizens' data, as well as on the analysis of risks to national security and Albania's obligations as a NATO member country" was defeated with 28 votes in favor, 76 against, and 0 abstentions.

The draft decision "On the election of a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania" Ms. Olta Rushaj is proposed as a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania was approved with 74 votes in favor, 26 against, and 3 abstentions. /CNA
