Debate on the new regulation, SP requests less time for MPs to speak

Tense discussions were held today in the Mandates Council regarding the proposed changes to the institution's Regulations, where the majority and the opposition clashed over some of the main points of the draft.

The Council for Rules of Procedure, Mandates and Immunity has met to review the draft decision that brings changes to the way plenary sessions are conducted. The proposals were presented by the Socialist Party and have provoked strong reactions from opposition representatives.

One of the most controversial changes is the reduction of discussion time for MPs from 10 to 5 minutes, a measure that the majority argues with the need for faster progress of parliamentary work.

The opposition has opposed the draft, demanding that the Constitutional Court's position be awaited first, with the argument that some of the proposed provisions have been previously addressed by this court.

The debate also brought up the issue of faster approval of draft laws related to the process of approximation of legislation with that of the European Union. According to the opposition, this reduces the space for parliamentary discussion, while the majority sees it as a step towards accelerating integration reforms.

Discussions are expected to continue in the coming days, while the parties remain divided on how to approve the changes./ CNA
