Summit/ Abazovic: The future of the Western Balkan countries is in the EU

Former Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic, delivered his speech at the panel discussion on the topic "Pan-Albanian Diaspora: Are we doing what we need to do together?" at the Diaspora Summit.

Abazovic began his speech with a call for the protection of the rights of Albanians in North Macedonia. He emphasized that all Albanians must come together to protect these previously achieved rights.

Regarding the integration process, Abazovic stated that the future of all Western Balkan countries lies in the European Union.

"I think that today we are doing what we need to do. Today we are together, we are discussing topics related to the diaspora. If there is a unique message from this summit, it is that we must be in defense of our rights. I want to send a message related to North Macedonia that we must all support Albanians in defending the rights that have been achieved. We must be united in showing that it is unacceptable to go backwards and we must take measures on how these rights should be protected.

I believe that in terms of membership, at this moment Montenegro is a little ahead, but I believe that Ferit Hoxha and his team will catch up with us. But regardless of who goes first, we must inspire each other. We must all sit down together more for the economy, culture and other fields. We must all rise together and have respect for each other. Without Albanians in the region there is no progress. The future of all of us is in the European Union. And all those who have come from other countries should know that they can return to Albania, Montenegro and all the countries of the Western Balkans", Abazovic said. /CNA
