The Speaker of the Parliament of Albania, Niko Peleshi, took the floor at the panel discussion on the topic "Diaspora and representative democracy in the Albanian space" at the Diaspora Summit. 

Peleshi stated during his speech that Albania has today gained international prestige as a promoter of security and peace.

The Speaker of Parliament said that today Albanians are part of the cultural, sports and political elites in Europe, the USA and other countries in the world. Among other things, he also spoke about the legislation approved by the Parliament in support of the diaspora.

"Albania is today gaining international prestige as a promoter of security and peace. Today, Albanians in the region are without any dilemmas on the side of the Europeanization of the Western Balkans. Today, Albanians have been affirmed as contributors to democracy. Albanians in the world are an example of success and contributors to the economy of our country.

Hundreds of thousands of Albanians are part of the cultural, sporting and political elites in Europe, the USA and other countries in the world. We have adopted legislation supporting the rights of Albanians living abroad and facilitating their integration into the life of the country. Pension agreements with 15 governments are an important part of guaranteeing the conditions for a quality life for Albanians abroad.

The legislation on voting from abroad created the opportunity for Albanians to elect and be elected to the Albanian Parliament. Their participation in the vote was a testament to the contribution of the diaspora to political life in Albania. But we have not yet found the formula for a secure and sustainable future for the Albanian nation.

The world is changing rapidly and dangers are threatening nations. Albanians in the diaspora are citizens of the countries where they live, but they carry with them a piece of Albania that has sometimes made them proud and sometimes upset them. Today is a historic moment for a new spiritual climate. Let us think together to build entrepreneurship and cooperation opportunities in Albania. Albania has a place for all Albanians. The return of the diaspora to Albania should be the narrative of the Albanians", Peleshi said. /CNA
