The most poisonous fish in the world is caught in Croatian waters

Seven silver-banded fish (Lagocephalus sceleratus) were spotted on Monday near Ceja Island in Croatia's Medulin Bay.

One of them was caught at a depth of 19 meters and sent to the Rovinj Sea Research Center.

According to experts, pufferfish with silver ribbons contains an extremely powerful poison, tetrodotoxin, which can cause serious health problems and death due to consumption. A dose of 1 to 2 mg is believed to be fatal

This species has an invasive character and is included in the so-called Lessepsian Migrants, species that enter the Mediterranean from the Red Sea through the Suez Canal. Initially, these fish live in the tropical regions of the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Due to its predation and lack of natural enemies, this fish has a negative impact on biological diversity and poses a threat to fisheries, as it damages fishing nets./ CNA
