A serious knife attack has occurred in Malandrino prisons, in Greece, where an Albanian prisoner, known for his ties to the Greek Mafia, was seriously injured by a fellow inmate.

Greek media reports that the incident occurred immediately after his transfer to prison, before he entered the detention wing. The suspected perpetrator, a Greek prisoner who worked in the prison's interior, stabbed him with a craft knife, causing serious injuries.

The injured man, 46-year-old Dhimitër Meci from Labova, Gjirokastra, known in the criminal world by the nickname "Dhimos", was rushed to the hospital and is out of danger.

Authorities suspect that the attack is related to clashes and settling scores between criminal groups, as the victim has been involved in several serious criminal cases, including an attempted murder in Athens.

Greek police have arrested the suspected perpetrator and have launched investigations to fully uncover the incident, while the case has brought back into focus security problems within Greek prisons. /CNA
