West Nile virus/ About 90 cases in Greece, 11 deaths

Cases of West Nile virus infection have been reported in several settlements in Greece.

Among the places where a number of people have been affected by this virus are Kardica, Larisa, Trikala, Imathia, Thessaloniki, Pella, Pieria, Kilkis, Serres, Kavalla, Drama, Rodopi, Kastoria and Arta, reports tovima.gr.

From the beginning of 2023, until today, a total of 89 local cases of West Nile virus infection have been diagnosed and investigated in Greece, of which 74 cases showed manifestations from the Central Nervous System and 15 cases had mild/no manifestations of the Central Nervous System. 

During the past week, 31 new cases were diagnosed/reported. There were 11 deaths in patients with viral infection and CNS manifestations, aged over 64./ CNA
