The United Nations says the situation in the southern Ukrainian cities of Mykolaiv and Kherson remains "dire" and "critical". Nearly a quarter of a million people in Mykolaiv alone are facing a lack of heat, water and power.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said Humanitarian Coordinator Denise Brown visited the two southern cities over the weekend. Brown reported that people fleeing Kherson are heading to Mykolaiv, according to Dujarric, CNN writes.

"Disa pika ngrohjeje janë krijuar tashmë në Mykolaiv për të ndihmuar njerëzit që nuk mund të ngrohin shtëpitë e tyre. Punonjësit e ndihmës po ofrojnë furnizime dhe gjeneratorë për t'i bërë këto vende funksionale," tha Dujarric.

Në Kherson, "Ne presim që, me mbështetjen e autoriteteve, ne do të jemi në gjendje të mbulojmë nevojat themelore të njerëzve që kanë qëndruar në qytet, nëse jemi në gjendje të mbajmë të njëjtin nivel ndihme të dërguar gjatë dy javëve të fundit. " 

“Situata me ujë, ngrohje dhe rrymë, megjithatë, mbetet e rëndë, megjithëse furnizimi me energji elektrike po rikthehet gradualisht”, shtoi zëdhënësi.

Donors have provided $3.1 billion in humanitarian aid through the UN this year, but Dujarric said continued funding is important to "maintain the momentum or the response", especially during the winter months.

"We continue to be concerned about the plight of civilians in Ukraine, especially as winter sets in. We are working to support people with services and supplies to ensure they can protect themselves and stay warm during these months tough," said Dujarric./ CNA.al
