Protests against Covid restrictions that erupted over the weekend appear to have died down as a heavy police presence is seen in Chinese cities.

Large barriers have been erected along the main road in Shanghai and police have made several arrests.

They have banned people from taking pictures of the protests and deleting the photos on their devices.

Nationwide protests grew after a fire at a high-rise block in Urumqi, western China, killed 10 people.

It is believed residents could not escape the fire due to Covid restrictions, but local authorities have disputed this.
