Trump orders troops to be deployed to Portland, authorizing "full force"

President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of US troops to "war-torn" Portland, Oregon, authorizing the use of "full force" if necessary.

"I am directing Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-torn Portland and any of our ICE facilities under siege from attacks by Antifa and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

After Los Angeles, Washington and Memphis, Portland would be the fourth city where the president has deployed troops on American soil.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, a Democrat, had previously opposed Trump's plans to deploy troops.

Trump's tweet on Saturday morning did not specify whether he intended to activate the National Guard or the regular US military./ CNA, translated by BBC
