Michigan church shooting: At least 1 dead, 9 injured, authorities say

New details have emerged from the incident in Michigan, where a gunman opened fire inside a church before setting the building on fire.

US authorities report that at least one person has been killed and nine others injured in the shooting.

Police Chief William Renye informed reporters that a 40-year-old man crashed his car into the main entrance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, where hundreds of people were gathered inside, before getting out and firing repeatedly.

The suspect is believed to have set the church on fire before police shot him, Renye said.

Flames and smoke could be seen for hours before the blaze was extinguished. Emergency crews were then combing the wreckage./ CNA
