Hundreds arrested in France after celebrations for PSG's Champions League

More than 400 people have been arrested across France after riots broke out during celebrations for Paris Saint-Germain's victory in the UEFA Champions League Final.

According to French authorities, clashes between fans and police led to 416 arrests in the early hours of Sunday, 280 of them in Paris alone. Thousands of police were deployed to ensure security and prevent incidents, but celebrations degenerated into violence in some areas of the capital.

Footage from the streets of Paris showed fireworks thrown at police, electric bicycles set on fire and damage to public and private property, including the smashing of shop windows. Police used tear gas to disperse crowds in the city centre.

Authorities reported that six vehicles, two businesses and a bus station were damaged during the incidents, while seven police officers were injured.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called the events "absolutely unacceptable" and condemned the acts of violence that accompanied the celebrations.

Meanwhile, far-right leader Marine Le Pen reacted on social media by criticizing the security situation in the country, stating that "only in France does the victory of a football club cause unrest."

Despite the incidents, PSG players are expected to take part in the victory parade in Paris, which will include a visit to the Eiffel Tower and an official reception by French President Emmanuel Macron.

This is the second time in a row that celebrations of PSG's European success have been accompanied by serious incidents, as last year, clashes following the club's triumph ended in casualties./ CNA
