Prominent French philosopher dies at 104

French philosopher Edgar Morin, a prominent intellectual figure, passed away at the age of 104.

The news was confirmed by his wife to the French news agency, AFP.

Born on July 8, 1921 in Paris, to a Jewish family originally from Thessaloniki, Edgar Nahum joined the Communist Party in 1941 and the Resistance under the pseudonym Morin.

He exerted a powerful influence with the publication of "Autocritique" in 1959, which recounts his expulsion from the French Communist Party (PCF), in which he was a leading figure, and his blindness to Stalinism.

At that time, he was also one of the founders of the Committee of Intellectuals Against the Algerian War.

Morin is considered a precursor to modern sociology and focused on phenomena that are little studied by sociology, such as cinema, new technologies, and sports. /CNA
