Kosovo Police Seize Weapons and Ammunition After Raid in the North

On April 16, Kosovo Police carried out six raids in the north of the country, in areas inhabited by a Serb majority, where various types of weapons, ammunition and military equipment were seized.

According to the official announcement, the raids were carried out following information received from citizens in the villages of Banovë and Prevlak in Zubin Potok.

In the first case, four different rifles, three radios, a camera, 223 rounds of ammunition, military uniforms, and weapon cleaning equipment were found in an uninhabited house.

In another search, in a residential house, the police found an unlicensed rifle and three cartridges. A person identified as MR (1972) was escorted to the police station, interviewed and then released by order of the prosecutor, while he is being investigated for the criminal offense of "unlicensed possession of weapons".

In another raid on an uninhabited house, an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 88 rounds of ammunition and an M75 hand grenade were seized. Explosive ordnance disposal units removed the grenade in a controlled manner.

Also, in other searches, AK-47-type weapons with corresponding ammunition, an M48 rifle, a hunting rifle, as well as weapon parts, bayonets and military uniforms were found in a barn.

The State Prosecution has instructed the initiation of cases for the criminal offense of "unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons".

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has stated that the seized evidence shows attempts to endanger security and stability in the country, emphasizing that any such activity will be dealt with without compromise.

Authorities in Kosovo have previously reported weapons seizures in the north, particularly after the armed attack in Banjska Zve?an in September 2023.

Kosovo blames Serbia for the attack, while Belgrade denies involvement. Milan Radoicic has claimed responsibility for the attack, for whom Kosovo authorities have filed an indictment and are seeking his extradition from Serbia./ CNA
