The opposition did not go to the Parliament/The session for the election of the

Opposition MPs boycotted today's session on the election of the president of Kosovo. As a result, the Speaker of Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, announced the postponement of the session until 2:00 PM.

"The opposition should come to the session, there is no reason to boycott ," said Haxhiu.

If the parties do not agree on Vjosa Osmani's successor, the Assembly will be dissolved and within 45 days Kosovo will hold new parliamentary elections.

The opposition decided to boycott Monday's extraordinary session, while only 64 deputies out of the 80 needed for the session were present in the hall. In the final vote held on Monday evening, the Vetëvendosje Movement's candidacy, Feride Rushiti, received 63 votes, while Hatixhe Hoxha received no votes. One vote was declared invalid.

Meanwhile, the two initial candidates of Vetëvendosje for the post of president, Glauk Konjufca and Fatime Mulhaxha-Kollçaku, officially withdrew from the race after 2 failed rounds. The opposition described the session as a “political spectacle”, while Prime Minister Albin Kurti blames them for the failure, saying that the opposition has not taken any concrete initiative to elect a new president. /CNA
