Dokufest starts, focusing on artificial intelligence

The 22nd edition of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival, Dokufest, has started in Prizren.

The theme of this year's edition is artificial intelligence, a topic that promises interesting conversations and discussions in numerous panels.

Artificial intelligence was also included in the opening ceremony. The computer voice introduced the festival, and even declared it open, announcing the screening of the opening film "2001: A Space Odyssey".

This film is from the year 1968 by the famous American director, Stanley Kubrick. The film is considered the masterpiece of this director and shows an epic story about the evolution of humanity and is probably the most "real" science fiction film of all time.

Dokufest will last until August 12. In this edition, about 230 films will be shown in eight cinemas, half of which are open air. Of these films, 104 of them compete in eight categories.

This year, the festival attracted a large number of films, over 3,500, that applied from 111 countries.

This edition also includes quality films from Croatia, Serbia and Albania. Also, there are films from Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Turkey.

"I think this is, not to say the best, but among the best years in terms of films made in Kosovo or by Kosovar filmmakers living abroad. Among them are two young authors who live in Switzerland", said Veton Nukollari, artistic director of Dokufest, for Radio Free Europe.

Famous characters from the world of film will be among the panelists. One of them is the Swiss director, Jan Baumgarten, who is known for his film about Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year, film creations from Canada will dominate the festival repertoire.

The residents of Prizren have been eagerly awaiting the start of Dokufest, despite the fact that a number of cultural events have been held in this city recently. However, now all attention is on Dokufest.

Hotels are almost full and the same applies to guesthouses, while a large number of citizens open the doors of their homes to receive guests from abroad.

This year, around 500 guests are expected to participate in Dokufest.

According to the data of the Institute for Advanced Research GAP, for the next ten days there will be a turnover of about 5 million euros./REL
