LIST/ Greece will give Turkish citizens visas to go to the 10 Greek islands

In an effort to break years of strained ties with Turkey, Greek authorities are on their way to establishing a one-year visa-on-arrival program for Turkish travelers.

Following a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, local media in both countries have reported on Greece's plans to introduce an automatic visa system to allow Turkish citizens to visit ten of its islands under visa-facilitated rules.

In a joint press conference after the meeting, Prime Minister Mitsotakis also said that his government has already received the approval of the EU Commission to introduce such a scheme, reports  SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The visa will be issued on the spot and will be valid for a maximum period of seven days, one entry. The islands that will be included in this new scheme are: Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, Rhodes, Symi, Kastelorizo. 


Throughout the press conference, Prime Minister Mitsotakis also expressed his support for Turkey's request for visa-free access to the Schengen area.
