Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said Romania's entry into the US visa-free program will be announced in 2024, ahead of the 2025 deadline discussed with US representatives.
The diplomat made the statement during a visit to the US, where he met with Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.
"Based on what we agreed to today, I think the formalization will happen next year. There will be a sustained effort from both the American side and the Romanian citizens, including the diaspora in the United States, with a timeline until 2025 for the abolition of visas. It was really a practical discussion", said Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
Regarding the visa waiver issue, Romania will sign two agreements with American representatives regarding information exchange and cooperation to fight crimes.
Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu also noted that the visa issue is an important goal for the country. She also pledged to cooperate closely with American partners and the American embassy./ CNA
