Iran: We are ready for dialogue with the US, but will respond if provoked

Tehran's diplomatic mission to the United Nations has stated that Iran is prepared for talks with the United States, but will defend itself if provoked.  

"Iran is ready for dialogue, based on mutual respect and (mutual) interests. But if pressure is put on it, it will defend itself and respond like never before," the Iranian mission said in a post on the X platform. 

Earlier, US President Donald Trump urged Tehran to reach an agreement on its nuclear program, threatening that if it does not do so, Washington will launch a new attack, much worse than the previous one. 

Trump said the force, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, was moving with "great speed, great power, enthusiasm and determination," noting that it was a larger fleet than the one sent to Venezuela. 

He expressed hope that Iran would sit at the negotiating table and reach an agreement that would ban nuclear weapons and be good for all parties.

The US president stressed that time was running out and reiterated his call for Iran to seek a deal, recalling previous military actions against Iran.

"The next attack will be much worse! Don't let this happen again," Trump said. /CNA
