The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, shared today some explanations regarding the "Jet Bank" case.

Speaking before the Economy Committee, Sejko responded to the interest of Democratic MPs, including Belind Këlliçi and Enno Bozdo, as he stated that this step is being taken based on competition and developments in the financial market.

Sejko acknowledged that it is the BoA's responsibility to monitor, supervise and analyze the financial security of this digital bank, based on the country's experience in this field.

The Governor added that this effort is being made to formalize and facilitate the payment system and to introduce more cash into the banking system, while not lagging behind in the payment monitoring system.

"Traditional banks, beyond digital banks, have made significant developments in digital fields, almost all of them. Competition and developments in the financial market also come as a result of legal and regulatory changes. These banks have developed the market. They are still adapting. The difference is that this digital bank will not accept cash. Of course, it is our responsibility and our analysis to make the distinction between e-banks, including the analysis for supervision and security. But in terms of products and productivity, Albania has to some extent produced an experience, not only from the FinTech market, but also from banks, from developments in the digital field. It is not at European levels and of course cash outside the banking system is at high levels in Albania. But this effort is made to formalize and facilitate the payment system and to introduce cash more into the banking system, while not lagging behind in terms of the payment monitoring system," said Sejko./CNA
