Prices only increase/ Transportation and food affect family budgets

Inflation has increased in May, rising to 3% compared to 2.2% a year earlier. This increase is a clear deterioration in purchasing power for Albanian families, who are feeling the pressure of prices on their essential expenses more and more every day.

Transportation tops the list with a significant increase of 7.8%, increasing the costs of movement for citizens.

Next in line are household expenses, where rent, water, energy and fuel have increased by 4.2%.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages, which represent the largest share in the consumer basket with 34.1%, have become more expensive by 2.2%.

According to INSTAT, consumer prices decreased by 0.04% compared to April, but this remains a statistical indicator that does not bring any real relief to citizens' pockets.

This negligible decline pales in comparison to the fact that other important sectors such as entertainment, sports and culture have become more expensive by 1.1%, while health services have increased by 0.9% within the same month.
